METAMERISM

This is an example of what is called metamerism - when two colours appear the same but have different spectral distributions. Clearly this is of great importance when considering the colour content of a lamp when illuminating a painting.

To the eye, monochromatic yellow and a red green lamp combination would appear the same. However, only a yellow patch of paint would be visible using the former for illumination
